Jude 實是 John Lennon 的大兒子Julian Lenon。

1968年，John Lennon开始与大野洋子(Yoko Ono)同居，并与前妻Cynthia提出离婚。
Beatles的另一位成员Paul McCartney感到离婚不仅会伤害原本相爱的两个人，带给孩子的伤痛可能更甚于此。
他想写一首歌来安慰John和Cynthia的儿子Julian。
在去拜访Cynthia母子的路上，他的脑海中浮现了这样的句子：
Julian, 'don't make it bad, take a sad song and make it better. Hey, try and deal with this terrible thing.'
这些也恰恰是原名叫Hey Jules 的歌最初的雏形。

Cynthia后来回忆到：她清楚记得Paul那天下午的拜访。
他不仅关心母子俩今后的生计，还戏噱地拿出一枝红玫瑰说：Cynthia你嫁给我怎样？
他还为母子俩唱了他在来时车上写的这首歌。
Paul的关心使Cynthia不再感到孤单遗弃，帮助她度过难关。

二十年后，Julian Lennon才知道这首歌是为他写的。
实际上，Julian对于Paul McCartney有着较其生父更加亲密的关系。
他童年玩耍的画面的主角都是Paul。
他对生父的回忆大多都停留在诸如流连夜店这样的负面印象。

几番修改后，Hey Jude一经推出就广获好评，在商业上也大获全盛。
单曲推出五个月就卖到375万张。
